It seems not so long ago now that we were buzzing excitedly about the office having found out that our humble Horsham based Plastic Injection Moulding business had been short listed for not one but two prestigious industry awards…….
The Plastic Industry Awards are the biggest and most prestigious event within the Polymer Industry and to have made it to the finals is no mean feat….
Our whole team was excited about the night itself and to be a part of such a glittering event meant that only our best togs would do!! Our boys dusted off their tux’s and buffed and polished their shoes while the girls got plucked, waxed and draped in diamonds and pearls…….
Everyone was relaxed g as we met for afternoon tea in the Hotel bar and welcomed our guest for the evening, Paul Jones of the Manufacturing Advisory Service. Paul has been working with us for some time now implementing LEAN techniques throughout our business and assisting us with funding for some of the projects that we are currently implementing.
After unwinding we went off to embark on the lengthy task of waiting for the girls to get in to their dresses and the not so lengthy task of the men donning their tux!
We regrouped in the Hotel foyer looking gorgeous (well how else could you describe the team photo below?)
Then jumped into taxis for the 10 minute journey to The Hilton, Park Lane where the Awards Ceremony was taking place.
Greeted by a Champagne reception and the flashes of the photographers camera the nerves slowly started to make themselves known.
After we took to our table the realisation of just how big this event was became apparent with over 800 guests attending. We were served a fantastic meal and the wine and conversation flowed…..
Comedian Tim Vine then took centre stage in a lovely pair of ‘night vision goggles’ and from the moment he stepped on stage he had the audience crying with those brilliant one liners. It is amazing how much material Plastics can conjure up especially as the evening was arranged through the Plastics & Rubber Weekly magazine. As Tim said the jokes just write themselves….
As time ticked on and the winners of the evening started to be announced the strain began to show on our MD’s face and our team got the fidgets as our first category got nearer…… Best Business Initiative was announced and I can honestly say I think we stopped breathing waiting for the winning name followed closely by the Best Training and Development category. Sadly, it was not to be our year on this occasion for either of the categories that we were nominated for, however the evenings winners could not have been more deserving.
We gladly collected our finalist trophy and then took to the dance floor to party the rest of the night away……
For us to be up alongside other global Polymer Industry businesses was an award for us in itself, re-affirming our confidence that the changes and progress that we have made throughout the business in the last two years is taking Pentagon Plastics in the right direction to build our future.
Paul Edwards, MD, said “It is an achievement to be nominated in two categories and far beyond our expectations when we first put our submission into the PIA committee. It is testament to the strength and commitment of our staff right through the business. Our proactive approach over the last two years has been rewarded and it has given everyone a boost to know that what we are doing is being recognised amongst our peers.”
