Pentagon announces acquisition of Phoenix Engineering 2009 Ltd…

Pentagon Plastics is excited to announce the purchase of a local toolmaking firm that specialises in the manufacture, service and repair of Caps & Closure tooling to the plastics industry.

In late 2015 Pentagon approached its neighbour Phoenix Engineering 2009 Ltd (formerly Punctual Precision) in relation to developing a closer working relationship. Following on from months of consideration and discussions by both parties it was agreed in June 2016 that Pentagon Plastics Holdings Ltd, which is solely owned by Pentagon’s MD Paul Edwards, would complete a 100% share purchase of Phoenix for an undisclosed fee.

Phoenix Engineering 2009 Ltd will now join Pentagon Plastics Ltd under the group umbrella.

The Phoenix of today was established in 2009 after a management buyout by a group of dedicated toolmakers; the Horsham based company boasting a £1million turnover is located next door to Pentagon Plastics and plays an important role in the Caps & Closures tooling market. The business has built many new tools over the years for a nucleus of customers and undertakes servicing, refurbishment, repairs and modifications to existing tooling.

With an in-house tool design team and mould trial facility Phoenix are well equipped to work with customers from concept to initial production.

The main areas of interest to Pentagon were the opportunity to expand the engineering skill set currently available and the potential to expand on the already comprehensive tooling activities that they offer their customers.

Paul Edwards, Pentagon Managing Director says “Phoenix utilises a wide range of equipment that will be of benefit to Pentagon’s tool making activities opening doors of opportunity going forward. This coupled with the proximity of Phoenix to Pentagon made for a very attractive opportunity.

For many years Pentagon has sub-contracted grinding and wire eroding work to Phoenix and also provided CNC milling services to them in return. The quality of work and commitment of staff has always been second to none which gives confidence that the level of customer service provided by Phoenix will mirror the high standards of Pentagon.”

The company although now owned by the Pentagon Group will continue to trade as Phoenix Engineering 2009 Ltd in the current market sector and its customers will continue to deal with the company as usual but with the added support that Pentagon can provide.

Pentagon recently invested in the services of John Horspool in the new role of Tooling Manager and he has brought a wealth of experience into the business. Both Paul and John will work closely with Phoenix’s Commercial Manager, Robin Rapley and Works Manager, Phil Tuckwell over the transitional period and beyond which will deliver a highly experienced management team to service the customers’ requirements.

Paul says ‘’the staff and customers are the most important elements in any business and it is something that everyone is acutely aware of which is why every effort has been made to deliver a seamless change.

We believe that with suitable investment Phoenix can take a larger market share and further develop its services into the Caps & Closure market as well as providing sub-contract tooling activities to a wider customer base.

This is a very exciting move ensuring the long term future for the highly skilled work-force and will allow the company to flourish.”

Robin Rapley, Phoenix Commercial Manager says “Everyone at Phoenix is delighted with the tie up and therefore at the prospect of working closely with Pentagon. We believe that together we can improve on the service that we offer both our sets of customers and with the investment Paul is proposing also improve on our efficiency in the production of our mould tools and insert work. I personally believe this is a fantastic fit for both companies and I am looking forward to working with Paul, John and all Pentagons staff.“

This begins a new chapter in the Pentagon history as the company invests in its future and is building an impressive business to meet the demands of its customers. They are certainly playing their part in the renaissance period we are seeing in UK Manufacture…
